  1. Drink plenty of water to keep well-hydrated if you are exercising.  Aim for at least 8 glasses a day.

  2. Watch yourself in the mirror when you are lifting weights to see that you are doing the exercises correctly.

  3. If you have never used the gym machines or weight-training equipment, it is a good idea to work with a personal trainer to show you how to do the exercises safely & correctly to prevent injury.

  4. Stay motivated with a personal trainer who can vary your workout so your workout is always challenging and fun!

  5. Work out on a light stomach to prevent reflux. Eat your main meals after your workout. A good pre-workout, easily digested meal would be a banana and a yogurt.

  6. Add mixed berries to you protein shakes to increase the antioxidant content and enhance your immune system.

  7. Eat protein at each meal, to help you reach your body building goals.

  8. Include a variety of fruits and vegetables in your diet for optimum health.

  9. Sleep is essential to body building. It helps the body recover and re-build the muscle after a good workout. Aim for at least 6 hours of sleep daily.

  10. Jump start your workout with a light warm up before hitting the heavy weights. This helps prevent injury

  11. You lose muscle as you age, so use resistance training to compensate.

  12. Control your portions! You don't need to eat every time you feel hungry and you don't need to eat until you are full at every meal
